Good One Café, Douglas Street, Ponsonby

The Powersurge design team worked closely with architect Jessica Barter and Alastair Keating of Wellington-based Supreme Coffee to create the interior of the company’s first Auckland café, known as Good One. Integral to the job was creating an industrial yet urban space with the overall effect needing to be unpretentious and relaxed.

Powersurge’s experience in commercial fitouts is fully realised here. The team produced metal shelving, stools, signage, trestle tables and coffee hoppers for the popular Ponsonby café. The metal craftsmanship and attention to detail is evident throughout the cafe, creating a space in which customers can both enjoy the laid back aesthetic with its quirky touches, as well as the functional yet cool design elements.

“What I bring to Powersurge are my random, nonsensical drawings and scribbles, usually on the back of used envelopes and brown paper bags. From there, they interpret my two-dimensional doodles, solve my half-designed problems and craft my ideas down to every last detail. I haven’t picked up - or had delivered - a job yet, that hasn’t been realised beautifully.”
